Tabu returns to Hollywood: Will be part of Dune: Prophecy

Starring in movies such as Crew and Haider, Bollywood actress Tabu has landed a recurring role in the new Max prequel series Dune: Prophecy.

Indian actress Tabu is set to become part of 'Dune: Prophecy,' a prequel to Denis Villeneuve's highly successful 'Dune' films.  Soon after the announcement surfaced, the netizens took to X to express their amazement at the selection of Tabu in one of the lead roles of this awaited international series. With this comeback, she marks a return to Hollywood after more than 12 years of her last project. 

What will be Tabu's role?

According to the US-based news outlet Variety, she will be seen in the role of Sister Francesca in the series. Her character in the series has been described as  “Strong, intelligent, and alluring, Sister Francesca leaves a lasting impression in her wake. Once a great love of the Emperor, her return to the palace strains the balance of power in the capital.”

Which international projects she has been a part of?

Tabu, a highly acclaimed and talented Indian actress, winner of the National Film Award twice, has won several laureates including seven Filmfare Awards. Previously, she has made significant contributions to international cinema, appearing in movies including "The Namesake," "Life of Pi," and the BBC miniseries "A Suitable Boy."

About 'Dune: Prophecy'

The series, which was first commissioned in 2019 under the name "Dune: The Sisterhood," was influenced by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's book "Sisterhood of Dune". Dune: Prophecy explores the origins of Bene Gesserit, a powerful sisterhood with a significant influence within the Dune universe. It follows the Harkonnen sisters as they rise to power and confront forces threatening humanity's future. 

A stellar star cast

The series includes other acclaimed stars like Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Johdi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, and Shalom Brune-Franklin. The executive producer and showrunner of the series is Alison Schepkar, co-produced by Max and Legendary Television. A premiere date is yet to be fixed for its release.
