Sushmita Sen shares ‘Taali’ teaser; fans awed by portrayal of trans activist

Actress Sushmita Sen took to Instagram to share the teaser for her upcoming web series ‘Taali’, where she will take on the role of Mumbai-based transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant.

In the video shared on Saturday, Sushmita wrote, “Gaali se Taali tak ke safar ki yeh kahaani [This is story of the journey from abuse to applause]. Presenting the story of Shreegauri Sawant’s fight for India’s third gender.”

In the 46-second teaser, Sushmita can be seen in a different avatar, playing a hardened activist who is ready to take on the system head-on to get, in her own words, ‘swaabhimaan, sammaan, swatantrata’ (self-respect, dignity, freedom).

Fans flooded the comments section with messages of awe and love, writing, “wowww respect”, “Brilliant”, and “Goosebumps”.

‘Taali’ release date revealed

In the post, Sushmita also revealed the release date of the much-anticipated web series, which will be released on the streaming platform ‘Jio Cinema’ on August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day.

‘Taali’ will see the OTT comeback of Sushmita Sen, who was last seen in the Hotstar crime thriller ‘Aarya’. The film will be directed by Marathi filmmaker Ravi Jadhav and is written by Kshitij Patwardhan, Amol Udgirkar, and Edwin Desouza. The ground-breaking series, which would reportedly feature a record number of 300 transgender actors, is created by Arjun Singgh Baren and Kartik D Nishandar, who would also serve as the series’ producer along with Afeefa Nadiadwala.
