The makers of the upcoming Tamil-language film ‘Kanguva’, which will star Tamil superstar Suriya in his 42nd role, released the first glimpse of the highly anticipated film on Sunday.

The first glimpse of the film, which stars Suriya as an ancient masked warrior named Kangaa who fights some kind of an evil army, has already more than 2.6 million views in about nine hours.

The first glimpse, with a runtime of about two minutes, displays the stunning cinematography and visual effects that director Siva has touted in interviews.

“The artwork of Kanguva is being crafted in giant laboratory-like spaces, and I can’t wait for the audience to see it,” Siva had earlier told the Express News Service.

‘Kanguva’ first glimpse released on Suriya’s b’day

The first glimpse of Kanguva, which was released on Suriya’s 48th birthday, was shared by the megastar on his Twitter handle. The first glimpse was released in the original Tamil language, along with Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and English.

As the video starts, a voice-over tells the story of the titular warrior Kangaa, whose lineage is connected to several mythological figures from Tamil folklore. The story is mostly told through visuals, with Suriya’s character speaking only one word, “Nalamma?” (All well?).

The film is widely considered to be Suriya’s magnum opus, and the working title of the film was ‘Suriya 42’ – a reference to the fact that this is the actor’s 42nd movie.

‘Kanguva’ will supposedly be partly set in the present world and partly set in an imaginary world 1,500 years ago. The pan-Indian film will be released in 10 languages in both 2D and 3D in the early part of 2024.
