Sonu Nigam's concert at DTU turns ugly: Stones and bottles hurled on stage

Delhi: Popular singer Sonu Nigam was put in a vexed position on stage during the concert at Delhi Technological University's (DTU) Engifest 2025. What was supposed to be a celebratory evening with music turned nasty when some of the rowdy students pelted stones and bottles at the stage. Nevertheless, Nigam kept calm and appealed to the crowd to be respectful. Speaking to the audience, he told them, "Main aapke liye aaya hun yahan pe so that we can all have a good time. I'm not asking you to not enjoy, but please aisa na kariye."

Incident brought to the forefront issues

His appeal was for maintaining order and protecting the people on stage.The situation got out of hand as some members of Nigam's team allegedly suffered injuries as a result of the confusion. With more than one lakh witnesses to the event, the incident brought to the forefront issues related to crowd control at big university festivals.

Nigam demonstrated his kindly nature

After the concert, numerous students were disappointed with the conduct of a few of the attendees. Speaking to media, one student of Daulat Ram College in Delhi University said, "It was embarrassing to watch how because of some mischievous students, a legend like him had to stop and ask the audience to control themselves." In the middle of all the mayhem, Nigam demonstrated his kindly nature when one of the audience members hurled a pink hairband on the stage.

Gracing the moment, he wore it and jokingly declared, "I will take this home." The crowd affectionately referred to him as "Pookie," putting a lighter tone to an otherwise charged evening. The episode reminds us of the value of audience responsibility in public events so that artists are free to perform without risk of injury or interference.
