Ranya Rao Gold Smuggling Case : The Enforcement Directorate has also started action in the Ranya Rao gold smuggling case. the ED raided several locations in Bengaluru and some other places as part of the money laundering investigation related to the Ranya Rao gold smuggling racket. The actress was arrested by the DRI in Karnataka in this case.
Sources said the case has been registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act taking cognizance of a recent Central Bureau of Investigation FIR and a Directorate of Revenue Intelligence case in which actress Ranya Rao was arrested. They said searches were being conducted at multiple locations in Karnataka, including Bengaluru.
Gold biscuits worth Rs 12.56 crore seized
Kannada actress Harshavardhini Ranya alias Ranya Rao, arrested in the gold smuggling case, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a special economic offences court on Monday. The actress was in DRI custody for three days for questioning. DRI officials produced her in court on Monday where she broke down.
Ranya arrested at Kempegowda International Airport
Gold worth Rs 12.56 crore was seized from Ranya at the Kempegowda International Airport, following which his residence was searched and officials said gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency worth Rs 2.67 crore were also recovered. ACS Gaurav Gupta has been appointed as the investigating officer to investigate the facts and circumstances of availing protocol facilities and the role of the state's Director General of Police, Indian Police Service cadre, and Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Corporation Ramachandra Rao in the case, the government order said.
Ranya completed her schooling in Bengaluru and later pursued acting as a profession.
