Maharashtra: YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia has approached the Supreme Court seeking relief after being booked under multiple FIRs for allegedly obscene remarks made on India’s Got Latent. The court, on Friday (February 14, 2025), stated that the plea would be taken up in two to three days. Meanwhile, co-host Samay Raina has deleted all episodes of the show amid growing backlash.
Senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Allahbadia, mentioned the case before a bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, requesting an urgent hearing. The bench, however, clarified that the case would be listed as per procedure and declined an oral mention. Assam Police had summoned Allahbadia for questioning on the same day.

The controversy erupted after Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed an FIR had been filed against Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija for allegedly promoting obscenity. The FIRs, lodged in both Assam and Maharashtra, accuse the YouTubers of engaging in sexually explicit conversations.
During an episode of India’s Got Latent, Allahbadia posed a controversial question to a contestant: "Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop?" The clip went viral, drawing widespread condemnation from netizens. Following intense backlash, Allahbadia issued an apology, acknowledging his mistake. "I don't want to be the kind of person who takes that responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect. I need to use this platform better," he said in a video statement.
Co-host and comedian Samay Raina broke his silence on Wednesday, announcing that he had deleted all episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube. "My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly," he wrote on social media. As Allahbadia awaits the Supreme Court’s decision, the case has ignited a heated debate over content regulation on digital platforms and the extent of legal accountability for influencers.
Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all Indias Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly.…
