Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas on Friday night lent her support to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood.

Taking to Instagram, the Citadel-star shared a poster that read ‘SAG AFTRA STRONG’ and wrote a caption that read, “I stand with my union and colleagues. In solidarity, we build a better tomorrow.”

The Hollywood actors union Screen Actors Guild has joined an ongoing strike by writers for the first time in 63 years, with an industry-wide strike coming into effect from midnight of July 14. The union is demanding a fair share of profits for members of SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America (WGA) in the era of online streaming. The union also asked for a promise from the filmmakers not to use artificial intelligence to replace actors.

The strike was announced after SAG failed to reach a labour deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents Netflix, Walt Disney, and other studios.

Priyanka Chopra film ‘Heads of State’ postponed; filming halted

The fallout from the strike will be seen in Hollywood in the coming days, as actors and writers are not allowed to work or promote any film while the strike is going on.

Priyanka Chopra, who is a member of SAG, will also not work during the strike, which is expected to last till at least late September.

As a result, the upcoming film ‘Heads of State’, starring John Cena, Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra, Paddy Considine, and others, has stopped production. The actors will be unable to restart filming until the strike runs its course, which will delay the release of the film.

Earlier on Thursday, the entire cast of the upcoming film Oppenheimer walked out of the film’s UK premiere in solidarity with the strike.
