Actor Poonam Pandey and her husband Sam Bombay are facing legal trouble over the fake death stunt pulled by Poonam earlier this month.

According to reports, an individual named Faizan Ansari has filed a police complaint and defamation lawsuit of ₹100 crore against the couple in Kanpur. In the FIR, he accused them of fabricating the death conspiracy and making a mockery of serious illnesses like cancer.

On February 2, a post on Poonam's Instagram claimed she had died of cervical cancer. Her manager also confirmed the news to media outlets. However, Poonam reappeared the next day saying she faked her own death to raise awareness about the disease.

In an Instagram video, Poonam said she is alive and did not actually die of cervical cancer, though thousands of women lose their lives to it. The stunt came a day after the government announced inclusion of the HPV vaccine in the immunization program.

Ansari's lawsuit alleges Poonam and Sam conspired to pull off the fake death for publicity, playing with people's emotions. He demanded their arrest and prosecution in a Kanpur court.

The incident has sparked outrage over trivializing such sensitive issues. Poonam's publicity stunt has landed her in legal trouble instead, highlighting the risks of executing such ideas in poor taste.
