Malayalam film 2018 has been selected as Indias official entry to the Oscars or Academy Awards 2024, the Film and Federation of India announced on Wednesday, September 27. The theme of the multi-starrer movie revolves around the topic of climate change.According to media reports, the movie was selected as the official Academy entry of India due to its relevant theme on climate change, the ordeals of the people as well as the distorted concept of development that exists in society, said Girish Kasarvalli, chairman of the selection committee for the movie.2018 has been produced by Venu Kunnappilly, CK Padma Kumar and Anto Joseph under the banner of Kavya Film Company and PK Prime ProductionsIndia at Academy Awards2018 will compete for the Best International Feature Film Oscar, a category that was previously titled Best Foreign Film.Lagaan, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker was the last Indian movie nominated for the Best International Feature Film at the Oscars in 2002. Naatu Naatu from RRR won Best Original Song while The Elephant Whisperers won Best Documentary Short Subject, making it a historic year for Indian cinema. All That Breathes by Shaunak Sen was nominated for Best Documentary Feature but lost out.
