Director Om Raut’s magnum opus Adipurush has been facing intense backlash and criticism from people and moviegoers since its release on the silver screen. Despite crossing the ₹200 mark at the box office, the film has suffered the wrath of the viewers due to its dialogues, VFX, edits and whatnot. Everything has been receiving negative reviews from the moviegoers. Amidst the ongoing controversy over Adipurush, the Internet demands a permanent shut on the screening of the film.

A letter to the PM, urging an immediate ban on screening of Adipurush

The film involves a mythological epic story, starring South India’s sensation Prabhas and Bollywood’s Kriti Sanon, however, it received another bombshell after the All India Cine Workers Association wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to stop screening the movie and an immediate order to ban Om Raut’s directorial from screening in the theatres and the OTT platform in the future.

In a tweet, ANI shared a letter by the All India Cine Workers Association to PM Modi regarding the same.

A need for an FIR against filmmakers

The letter by the cinema workers’ body talked about how they need an FIR against Adipurush’s director, Om Raut, the dialogue writer, Manoj Muntashir Shukla and the producers of the movie.

According to the letter, one of the parts read, “This movie’s screenplay and dialogues are defaming the image of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman. Adipurush movie is hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and Sanatan Dharm. Prabhu Sri Ram is a god for everyone in India and no matter what religious faith one comes from, this movie depicts Lord Ram and even Raavan who looks like a character from a video game, with dialogues hurting every Indian in the country and across the globe. Actor Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan shouldn’t have been part of such a disgraceful movie ever made in the history of Indian Cinema. Adipurush is a complete disaster of our faith in Shri Ram and Ramayan.”

Protest staged in Varanasi over Adipurush row

Moreover, the spiralled controversy over Adipurush also led a group of people to stage a protest in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi and tore posters of the film. On June 19, the Hindu Mahasabha lodged a complaint to the Lucknow Police against its filmmakers.

Hitting out at the makers, the Samajwadi Party (SP) said that the faithful are hurt by its “cheap and superficial dialogues” and claimed that the film was part of an “agenda”.
