Speaking in an interview, actor Randeep Hooda spoke about the crisis in Hindi cinema, condemning the trend of blindly imitating trends by the industry. He also appreciated South Indian filmmakers for being faithful to their cultural heritage.
One or two re-released movies have succeeded. It doesn't mean everything is succeeding. If something works, then the same type of projects begin to get made. Randeep aims to balance mainstream and experimental projects, selecting subjects which connect with audiences.
Complimenting South Indian directors, Randeep said that their narratives are centered around basic human feelings, so their movies are more relatable. He further added, "They are just making our films, but with more rootedness and real characterisation. Pushpa doesn't have six-pack abs—he has a beard and a crooked shoulder. So-called elite filmmakers and actors are otherwise engaged in sculpting abs rather than creating characters. They are not producing character-based films Randeep Hooda will next appear in action-thriller Jaat, in which he has played the villain Ranatunga.
