Marshall B. Mathers III, popularly known as the rapper Eminem, Slim Shady and Dr.Dre has formally asked the Republican presidential candidate from India, Vivek Ramaswamy to stop using his music on the campaign trail. This request came just weeks after Mr. Ramaswamy broke into an impromptu version of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” at the Iowa State Fair.

Eminem’s licensing company Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) reported the grammy winning rappers dissatisfaction through a letter reported by Daily Mail on Monday dated 23 August, that said “BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies with respect thereto.”

Jake Tapper, anchor of The lead CNN and CNNSOTU took to ‘X’, formerly knoiwn as Twitter, and posted the letter of BMI objecting to Vivek Ramaswamy’s use of Eminem’s songs in future rallies.

Ramaswamy performs to ‘Lose Yourself’

A video of Ramaswamy, who has risen to the third place among the republicans running for the 2024 elections went viral on social media when the presidential candidate performed to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” onstage during a campaign event and showcased his rapping skills in Iowa earlier this month.

While replying to the rappers action to show his dissatisfaction, Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson of Vivek’s campaign said in an email response that Ramaswamy “just got on the stage and cut loose.” she further added “To the American people’s chagrin, we will have to leave the rapping to the Real Slim Shady. ”.

The Republican presidential candidate is a Harvard garduate and as a part of his side hustle the Ramasyamy was a rapping libertarian-minded lyrics with the stage name “Da Vek.”

“If you think debater-extraordinaire Vivek G. Ramaswamy ’07 is intense, you obviously haven’t met Da Vek,” The Crimson, Harvard’s student newspaper, humorously noted in 2006.

Eminem’s dissatisfaction towards Republicans

The rapper had also openly shown his dissatisfaction towards the Republican politicians in other instances. He released a song named “Campaign Speech” warning Americans against then-candidate Donald Trump during the third and final presidential debate of the 2016 election.

Eminem had also criticized Trump’s policies and his fans who voted for trump in 2016 at the BET Hip Hop Awards. However, he allowed Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign use to “Lose Yourself” which is the same song that got Ramawsamy in trouble with the rapper.

Previously well known artists such as Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Aerosmith and Adele as well as heirs of Prince have complained about their songs being used in donald Trump’s rallies without their permission.

Trump’s rallies using songs without the artists permission ins not a new occurrence. The Rolling Stones had even threatened to sue if the Trump’s campaign continued to use the British group’s classic hit “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” in 2020.
