Mumbai Police books Urfi Javed for viral arrest video, calls it ‘cheap publicity’

Mumbai Police has booked fashionista and influencer Urfi Javed for defaming police by sharing a fake video of her arrest on social media, an official said. The Mumbai police called it a "cheap publicity" stunt.

A video went viral on Friday that showed Urfi getting arrested by police for wearing obscene clothes. The video of her supposed arrest gained widespread attention on social media.

The police have arrested Urfi under sections 171, 419, 500, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The individuals that were posing as police officers are also under arrest and the vehicle has also been seized, Mumbai police said.

Taking to X, Mumbai Police wrote “One Can’t Violate Law Of The Land, For Cheap Publicity!”

"A viral video of a woman being allegedly arrested by Mumbai Police, in a case of obscenity is not true - insignia & uniform has been misused," Mumbai police said on social media platform X after the 'Urfi Javed arrested' video went viral.

“However, a criminal case has been registered against those involved in the misleading video, at Oshiwara Pstn under sections 171, 419, 500, 34 IPC,” the post added.

The video that went viral on social media showed Urfi getting arrested by individuals posing as police officers while she was at a coffee shop in the morning. She wore a red backless top and paired it with jeans and two female ‘fake’ officers questioned her dressing.

The female officers were also seen escorting Urfi to the police station, asking questions related to her attire.

The official page of Mumbai Police also took to Instagram stories to post about the same matter.
