The National Cinema Day will be held on October 13 this year, according to The Multiplex Associations of India (MAI). It will be a very exciting day for movie enthusiasts as movie calls will charge only rupees 99 per admission across the country, as per the national multiplex trade body.
Over 4,000 screens at multiplexes from India, including popular chains like PVR INOX, Cinepolis, Miraj, and Delite, have teamed up to participate in the National Cinema Day celebrations, on October 13. Movie lovers all over India can watch films for just Rs99 on this day. However, this price will not change for recliners and premium formats like 4DX and IMAX.
The multiplex body took to X(Twitter) to share this announcement. They wrote, “National Cinema Day is back on October 13th. Join us at over 4000+ screens across India for an incredible cinematic experience, with movie tickets priced at just Rs. 99. It’s the perfect day to enjoy your favourite films with friends and family (sic).”

When the event was held in September of last year, 6.5 million people attended, the most ever for a single day. Industry experts predicted that box office receipts for the day would have reached roughly Rs. 48 crore spanning films in various languages with tickets costing Rs. 75.
The event was held on September 23 which saw most of the shows being sold out and the houseful boards returned to the ticket counters.
“The one day initiative has seen a massive response from Indian moviegoers, with shows starting as early as 6.00 am due to an unprecedented demand for movie tickets. Audiences of all ages came together and the country’s cinema operators reported house-full shows throughout the day, making 23 September the highest attended day of the year,” MAI had said in a statement last year.
The tickets were sold at Rs 48 per person and saw a turnover of Rs 48 crore. Moreover, in terms of the success of movies, the mystery thriller ‘Chup: Revenge of the Artist’ collected around Rs 2.75-3 crore on its first day. Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s superhero flick ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’ had earned Rs 8.50 crore.
This year, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan is also expected to benefit a lot from this event in mid-October.
