The Miss Universe Organisation has terminated its ties with the Indonesia franchise following sexual harassment allegations.

Miss Universe snaps Indonesia ties after sexual harassment allegations

Taking it shocking announcement to X, formerly known as Twitter, the organiser of the international major beauty pageant wrote, “In light of what we have learned took place at Miss Universe Indonesia, it has become clear that this franchise has not lived up to our brand standards.”

Reportedly, the Malaysia edition, also hosted by Indonesia’s PT Capella Swastika Karya, will be cancelled too amid this announcement.

However, Capella Swastika’s national director Poppy Capella has refused any involvement in body checks in a statement on Instagram. She added that she objects to any form of violence or sexual harassment.

Miss Universe said in a note shared on X that the organisation is now evaluating its franchise agreement and policies to prevent this type of conduct from occurring.

According to media reports, almost six contestants of the Indonesia pageant have lodged complaints, accusing organisers of sexual harassment and also claiming they were subjected to ‘topless body checks.’
