MDMK chief Vaiko Sunday called for a ban on Sunny Deol-starrer "Jat", which was recently released, in Tamil Nadu for its alleged "malicious portrayal" of the Eelam, Tamil "freedom struggle" and the LTTE. But things are not rosy in MDMK. The party's administrative council approved the decision at its Saturday meeting after Vaiko's son Durai Vaiko resigned from the party position due to party indiscipline.

The party passed a series of resolutions, one of which demanded the "removal" of state Governor R N Ravi. Alleging that there was no necessity for such a reference in the script, the pro-Tamil MDMK accused that "freedom fighters and generals" who have been depicted as villains in the film is "reprehensible". "It was stressed in this meeting that Jat should be prohibited in Tamil Nadu," it decided.

Centre to revoke the Waqf (Amendment) act

As a part of other demands, it also demanded the Centre BJP-led NDA government to repeal the Waqf (Amendment) Act and the "removal" of Ravi, "who was severely criticised by the Supreme Court in the past," reportedly taking a jibe at the top court verdict handing over to the pending state bills. The party has assured to stage a protest here on this issue on April 26.
