Mumbai: Kartik Aaryan has spoken about the harsh realities of the Bollywood industry, especially the insider vs outsider debate that has often dominated conversations around opportunity and success. In a candid interview with The Indian Express, the actor spoke about how he too has faced the challenge of losing out on roles to star kids from film families.
"It's happened to me too," Kartik confessed. "Meri bhi opportunities kayi baar aise gayi hai jahan pe mujhe aisa laga ki (I have also lost opportunities where I thought) maybe I should have gotten the opportunity rather than someone who is from the family or whatever." His words reflect a common sentiment in Bollywood, where many believe that connections and family lineage give certain actors an upper hand in landing coveted roles.
Though he seemed frustrated at the trend, Kartik was amazingly mature in his response. Agreeing that the star kids did have an edge, he said, "It's not their fault. I have made my peace with it.". If I had been born in that family, the same would have happened to me too." This statement reveals Kartik's acceptance of the industry's structure, showing that while he may have been affected by it, he does not hold resentment towards those born into it.
The debate about insider versus outsider continues to generate strong opinions, with many questioning whether talent alone is enough to secure a successful career in Bollywood without the backing of industry connections.
Despite the setbacks he faced, Kartik Aaryan's career is moving on wheels and 2024 has been a great year for him both critically and commercially. To be specific, he took off to a flying start with Chandu Champion by Kabir Khan, which not only did not do so well commercially but also saw his interesting portrayal of Paralympic champion Murlikant Petkar.
However, Kartik bounced back in a big way with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which was a huge success and raked in almost ₹400 crore at the box office. His performance, along with the film's success, proved his star power. Although Aashiqui 3 was announced in 2023, the film has reportedly been delayed, but fans are eagerly awaiting its release.
