Filmmaker Karan Johar is all set to make the third instalment in the hugely popular Student of the Year movie franchise, which will reportedly star Shayana Kapoor, as per media reports.
However, Student of the Year 3 will be different from its predecessors, as it will be a web series that will reportedly be released in the over-the-top (OTT) service Disney+Hotstar, entertainment news outlet Pinkvilla said in a report.
According to the report, the movie will star Shanaya Kapoor – the daughter of Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor – and more fresh faces, for which casting is underway. The Student of the Year is famous for launching several successful actors. Its first iteration paved the way for the talented trio of Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, and Varun Dhawan, while SOTY 2 launched Ananya Pandey and Tara Sutaria.
The new movie, which is reportedly in the writing phase and is expected to go on floors during the last quarter of this year, will be produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, which is the digital arm of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The director of the new series will be chosen in the coming months, as per the reports.
Shanaya Kapoor, who is the niece of star Anil Kapoor and has worked as an assistant director in ‘Gunjan Saxena’, was expected to make her film debut in Karan Johar’s Bedhadak, but the film was shelved due to issues with its script.
She will finally make her film debut in Mohanlal’s pan-India movie ‘Vrushabha’, which will also star Zahrah S Khan and Roshann Meka.
The third Student of the Year film will mark Shanaya’s debut in the OTT sphere.
