During his recent visit to India for the Indo-Japan Forum, Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yoshimasa Hayashi, expressed his deep admiration for Telugu actor NTR Jr, lauding him as a brilliant performer and his ‘favourite actor’.

As part of his two-day visit, Hayashi attended an exclusive screening of SS Rajamouli’s critically acclaimed film ‘RRR’ in Delhi. Impressed by the film and Indian cinema, Hayashi not only praised Jr NTR’s portrayal in ‘RRR’ but also declared him his favourite actor.

“I must say that Junior NTR’s portrayal in RRR was truly impressive. His talent and dedication to his craft are evident on the silver screen,” expressed Hayashi, who also appreciated Ram Charan’s character in the film, as per translations provided by news outlet AP7AM.

“The [foreign] minister’s appreciation for NTR Jr’s talent and popularity underscores the deep cultural connections between India and Japan and reflects the power of cinema in fostering international bonds,” an official statement read.

“NTR Jr has an illustrious career in the Indian film industry, particularly in Telugu cinema, where he has garnered a massive following both in India and in the world. The minister’s endorsement further highlights the actor’s global appeal and influence beyond borders,” the statement added.

‘RRR’ more loved in Japan than India: NTR Jr

‘RRR’ has been credited for elevating Indian cinema’s stature on the global stage. Depicting the bond between two Telugu freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, the movie showcases their journey from oppression to becoming freedom fighters in their own right.

RRR’s team had previously visited Japan during its promotions leading up to the Oscars, further solidifying the cultural connections between the two nations. During his visit to Japan, NTR Jr had said, “I was there in Japan, witnessing people crying…and I think they have expressed their love for RRR as audiences, more than what India could.”

RRR’s exceptional success at the box office, collecting over ₹1,200 crore worldwide, exemplifies the film’s global footprint.

NTR Jr is currently filming for his highly anticipated movie ‘Devara’, directed by Kortala Siva, slated for release on April 5, 2024. The film also features Janhvi Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Prakash Raj in prominent roles.
