The trailer for the film ‘Jaane Jaan,’ starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, was released on Tuesday. The film, which will be released in three weeks, is based on the best-selling mystery novel The Devotion of Suspect X and is directed by Sujoy Ghosh. The thriller is set to feature Jaideep Ahlawat, who looks unrecognisable in the trailer, as well as Vijay Varma in supporting roles.

The movie seems to be set in the hill town of Kalimpong where Kareena plays Maya D’Souza. Maya’s neighbor, Naren, suspects that she may be in an abusive relationship since he sees signs of it. Jaideep plays the character of Naren in the movie, and the trailer depicts him as a disturbing stalker. Meanwhile, Vijay portrays the police officer Karan, who arrives in Kalimpong in search of Maya’s missing husband but ends up falling in love with her. When old friends Naren and Karan are together, Karan asks Naren about his “hot padosi,” who also happens to be the main target of his inquiry. In contrast to the original novel, the film seems to have made some changes of its own.
Sujoy is known for his hit thriller Kahaani, which helped propel Vidya Balan to star status along with The Dirty Picture and No One Killed Jessica. His last theatrical film was 2019’s Badla, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu. He has since helmed a Netflix series, Typewriter, and most recently directed a segment in the anthology film Lust Stories 2.
Talking about the film, director Sujoy Ghosh earlier said, “’Jaane Jaan’ is based on the book which has been the love of my life for a long long time. From the day I read ‘Devotion of Suspect X’, I wanted to adapt it into a film. It was the most amazing love story I had ever read and today thanks to Kareena, Jaideep and Vijay that story is alive on screen. We all worked very hard to tell this story, and hopefully, the audience will love it as much as we do.”
Excited about her first-ever film on OTT, Kareena said in a statement, “I am excited to be coming on Netflix with a very special project. After 23 years, this feels like a new launch, and I have the jitters of a newcomer! Audiences will see me in a role I have never played before, with a story that is so unique and thrilling. I am looking forward to seeing the viewers react to a role that I believe is one of my best!”
The film is based is the official adaptation of the bestselling novel ‘Devotion of Suspect X’ by Keigo Higashino. The star cast includes Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma. It is scheduled to be released on September 21 on Netflix.
