In a candid revelation, Kanwaljit Singh expresses regret to his co-star Sanya Malhotra after viewing their film, which has sparked significant discussions about gender roles.
Kanwaljit Singh, who plays Richa's father-in-law in the critically acclaimed film "Mrs.," recently shared his thoughts on the movie and his co-star's performance. The film, released on ZEE5 on February 7, is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam hit "The Great Indian Kitchen" and features Sanya Malhotra as Richa, an aspiring dancer trapped in a patriarchal household. After watching the film, Singh felt compelled to apologize to Sanya for the oppressive nature of his character, admitting, “I felt so disgusted that I instantly went to Sanya and said sorry”.
During an interview with India Today, Singh recounted his experience of watching the film, stating that he had forgotten the extent of his character's harshness towards Richa. He noted that while filming, he was more focused on enjoying the food than reflecting on his role's impact. Upon seeing Sanya's portrayal of Richa’s struggles, he realized how much he troubled her character and expressed remorse for it.
"Mrs." has garnered widespread acclaim since its release, achieving record viewership on ZEE5 and becoming the most searched film on Google shortly after its debut. Critics and audiences alike have praised its powerful narrative and emotional depth, sparking important conversations about women's issues in society. The film has resonated particularly with female viewers, who appreciate its raw depiction of the challenges women face in domestic settings.
The film's release has also ignited discussions surrounding gender roles and expectations within Indian society. While some have criticized it for promoting a one-sided view of domestic life, many fans have defended its portrayal of women's struggles against patriarchal norms. This dialogue underscores the relevance of "Mrs." in today's cultural landscape as it confronts uncomfortable realities faced by many women. As Kanwaljit Singh reflects on his role and its implications, "Mrs." continues to make waves in both cinematic circles and societal discussions.
