Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-Lee split after 27 years of marriage, issues statement

Wolverine star Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness are splitting up after 27 years of marriage, a statement carried by US media said Friday. The Australian couple who are parents to two children provided a joint statement announcing the end of their almost three-decade-long marriage.

Hugh (54) met Debora (67) on the sets of an Australian TV series in 1995, and the pair wed a year later. The two went on to have 2 children, a son Oscar, 23, and a daughter Ava, 18.

Joint statement

Hugh and Deborra released a joint statement together citing that this is the sole statement the couple will make on this issue, as per media reports. The statement first mentioned in a popular US magazine stated “ We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives,” it continued while concluding that no further information will be released.

27th anniversary of Hugh and Deborra

The couple celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in April after tying the knot in 1996. After only 5 months of their anniversary, the couple announced their divorce.

Hugh made a post on Instagram to wish his wife the occasion with a caption that read “I love you Deb. Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!! I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humour, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gifts to me. I love you with all my heart.”

Deborra is 13 years older than the Wolverine actor and the two tied got married in April 1966 after they met on the sets of the Australian show Correlli. The two later became parents when they adopted their son Oscar in 2000 and then their daughter Ava in 2005.

Hugh is known mostly for his roles in movies such as Wolverine, The Greatest Showman, Van Helsing and many more. His rippling muscles and cut-glass features have earned him an army of admirers, and in 2008 he was named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive”.
