Bollywood enthusiasts are in for a double treat as two highly anticipated sequels, ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’, made their way to the big screens today. Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ and Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ hit the theatres on Friday to large fanfare and turnouts across the country.

Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ has been the subject of much anticipation and discussion, particularly due to the Central Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) scrutiny. The film, after some deliberation, has secured an ‘A’ certificate and undergone several edits, including a notable character change for Akshay Kumar, who was ultimately shown as a messenger of Lord Shiva instead of the deity himself.

In contrast, nostalgia takes centre stage with ‘Gadar 2’, a sequel that sees Sunny Deol reprising his role as Tara Singh and Ameesha Patel returning as Sakeena after a span of 22 years. The lead actors have been actively promoting the film across the country, even visiting the Wagah border to witness the famed Attari–Wagah border ceremony.

Advance bookings for both films have witnessed a promising lead, yet Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ seems to have gained an edge over ‘OMG 2’ in certain regions. According to media analysts Scanilk, ‘Gadar 2’ is expected to earn ₹35 crore on the opening day, while ‘OMG 2’ will lag behind with an estimated earning of around ₹9 crore.

Cinemagoers flock to watch ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’ in large numbers

The release of ‘Gadar 2’ has generated an extraordinary buzz, with fans flocking to theatres in remarkable numbers, indicating significant occupancy rates. This surge in theatre attendance echoes a level of excitement comparable to the releases of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ and Yash’s ‘KGF 2’.

Media outlet Boxofficeindia.com forecasts that ‘Gadar 2’ is poised for an impressive opening day collection, with various regional sectors driving its strong performance. The film’s widespread appeal, particularly in sectors like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar, has contributed to its remarkable start. The movie’s performance in the South sector, despite competition from Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’, is equally notable.

‘OMG 2’, starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam, has also hit the screens today, and fans took to social media platforms to share their reactions after watching the film. While some praised Akshay Kumar’s audacious choice of roles, others celebrated the film’s focus on crucial societal issues such as sexual health.

A sequel to the hit Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar starrer ‘OMG: Oh My God’, ‘OMG 2’ embarks on a fresh journey. In the original film, Akshay portrayed Krishna, but in the sequel, his role transitioned to that of a divine messenger of Lord Shiva.

The verdict on these sequels is now in the hands of audiences, and as the excitement continues to build, the box office’s response to these double sequels remains to be seen.
