Entertainment: After a moderate start, Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya's aviation thriller Sky Force witnessed a remarkable surge over the weekend, ending on a high note. Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, the film has set a solid foundation for a potentially successful run, thanks to positive reviews and word-of-mouth publicity.

Opening weekend box office performance

Sky Force earned ₹12.25 crore on its opening day, a figure slightly below expectations for a big-budget film. However, the movie made a dramatic turnaround with an astounding 80% growth on Saturday, minting ₹22 crore. The upward momentum continued on Sunday, adding ₹27.50 crore to its tally. This brought the film’s domestic opening weekend net collection to ₹61.75 crore.

The makers have claimed the film earned over ₹40 crore in the first two days, suggesting the final opening weekend figure may exceed ₹70 crore. The movie has also performed decently in overseas markets, earning $600K in two days, contributing an additional ₹5 crore to its total.

The critical Monday test

Despite its strong opening weekend, Sky Force faces the crucial Monday test, which will determine its sustainability and lifetime collection. If the film manages to maintain momentum with minimal drops, it could be poised for a healthy first-week run and potentially long-term success at the box office.

The story behind Sky Force

Sky Force is inspired by the 1965 Indo-Pakistani air war, focusing on the Sargodha airbase attack in Pakistan. This high-octane action drama brings a fresh take on wartime heroics, blending patriotism with thrilling aerial combat sequences.

Star-studded cast and direction

Akshay Kumar leads the film alongside debutant Veer Pahariya. The cast also features Sara Ali Khan and Sharad Kelkar in key roles, with a special cameo by Nimrat Kaur. The film’s direction by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani has been praised for capturing the intensity of the 1965 conflict while keeping the audience engaged.
