The 68th Filmfare Awards held last night at the Jio World Conventional Centre in Mumbai, marked the beginning of Bollywood’s award season. Filmfare Awards is a magnificent event for the industry because it unites the whole cinema community to celebrate the best films of the previous year. Filmfare Awards which is one of the oldest and most prominent film events dedicated to the Hindi film industry.

The Gala night was hosted by Salman Khan, Maniesh Paul and Ayushmann Khurrana. While Alia Bhatt clinched the Best Actress trophy, Rajkummar Rao won the Best Actor award. Filmfare Awards 2023 was mainly dominated by ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Badhaai Do.’

‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ bagged 10 trophies including some of the biggest awards for the night, Best Film, Best Director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Alia Bhatt as Best Actress. Rajkummar Rao has won the award for the best actor for his performance in ‘Badhaai Do’

Tabu and Bhumi Pednekar shared the prize for Best Actress (Critics) for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Badhaai Do, respectively. Sanjay Mishra’s portrayal in Vadh earned him the Best Actor award from critics.

Veteran actor Prem Chopra received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Male): Anil Kapoor for Jug Jugg Jeeyo

Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female): Sheeba Chaddha for Badhaai Do

Best Music Album: Pritam for Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva

Best Dialogue: Prakash Kapadia and Utkarshini Vashishtha for Gangubai Kathiawadi

Best Screenplay: Akshat Ghildial, Suman Adhikary and Harshavardhan Kulkarni for Badhaai Do

Best Story: Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary for Badhaai Do

Best Debut (Male): Ankush Gedam for Jhund

Best Debut (Female): Andrea Kevichusa for Anek

Vivek Agnihotri denied being part of the show

Amid all this, on Thursday before the beginning of the show, director Vivek Agnihotri refused to be part of the award show. Although his film, ‘The Kashmir Files’ was nominated in various categories including the best director. He announced that he will not be part of the unethical and anti-cinema awards.

Reportedly, the director was upset that the principal actors from the shortlisted films are shown in the best director nominees’ poster for the 68th Filmfare Awards, which was published on social media by the publication.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, Anees Bazmee’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra: Part One Shiva’, Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Uunchai’, and Harshvardhan Kulkarni’s ‘Badhaai Do’ were among the competitors for the best director award.
