But, here’s also a shocking and strange thing that happened. Now, even Bollywood stars are hit by the sudden increase in the rates of this vegetable. Wondering whom? He is none other than veteran star Suniel Shetty.

Actor Suniel Shetty on tomatoes price hike

In an interview, the actor said that the rising tomato prices have also affected his kitchen and has been consuming less due to the prices. He also added that he orders his vegetables through the app as they are cheaper compared to shops and markets.

The Hera Pheri actor said, “My wife Mana only buys vegetables for one or two days, we believe in eating fresh produce. By the prices for tomatoes are skyrocketing these days, and this has affected our kitchen as well. I eat fewer tomatoes these days. People might think that since I’m a superstar, these things wouldn’t affect me. But that isn’t true, we have to deal with such issues as well.”

“If you look at the prices on these apps, you’ll be shocked. They’re cheaper than all shops and markets. I order from the app, but not because it’s cheaper, but because they sell fresh produce. They even tell you where the vegetables were grown, and farmers get direct benefits,” he added.

Government’s efforts

Taking notes from the price hike, the government has asked National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation and National Consumers Federation to procure tomatoes from several states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra and then, distribute them in areas that have recorded the biggest jump in its rates.

Reportedly, the central government ensured that Delhi-NCR will get fresh stock of tomatoes will be available to consumers by Friday.
