Helmed by Honey Trehan, the film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and has been on radar ever since its announcement. The story turns around Diljit Dosanjh (Jaswant Singh Khalra), an activist who fought against alleged fake encounters of Sikh youths by Punjab Police during militancy.

‘Punjab 95’ will also feature Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Pal Vicky.

According to the sources, the makers of the film ‘Punjab 95’ announced the premier of the movie in upcoming Toronto Film Festival (TIFF). However, the movie has been dropped from the list, as per media buzz.

A US-based agency has shared an update which says that the name of the film is not mentioned on the official website of the event.

The film was initially named ‘Ghallughara’, an ancient term used to refer to the massacre of Sikhs in 1746, 1762 and 1984. Notably, the process took six months for the makers and the banner RSVP to get the approval for the certification from India’s Central Board of Film Certification in late 2022. The film was given the certification after 21 cuts and a change in the title to ‘Punjab 95.’ However, the banner RSVP appealed the decision of the Central Board of Film Certification in the Bombay High Court. But the decision is still pending, sources claim.

Meanwhile, ‘Thank You For Coming’, directed by Karan Boolani, will makes its world premiere as part of its high-profile Gala section at TIFF.
