IIFA Awards: Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar, known for her bold fashion statements, recently made waves at an event celebrating the industry's best-dressed celebrities. She donned a striking white saree designed by Raw Mango, complemented by a unique breastplate adorned with serpentine designs, which many social media users likened to a 'Naagin' or shapeshifting serpent.

Outfit that sparked controversy

Bhumi's choice of attire, featuring a glass belly and snake motifs, was described by the brand as a Bhuta Armour traditionally worn by Theyyam dancers in South India. The description states, “This armour is worn by the Theyyam dancers of South India, who wear elaborate costumes and jewelry to channel the voice and spirit of the divine.” The garment is crafted from glass and is coiled with cobras, paying homage to Lord Shiva.

Mixed reactions on social media

While Bhumi's ensemble aimed to make a bold statement, it drew significant criticism online. One user remarked, “Even her face looks like she is uncomfortable in this plastic outfit. Maybe she was forced to wear it.” Another commented, “Best dressed? She will definitely win for ‘worst dressed’ or ‘trying too hard.’” Many others joined in questioning the fashion choice, with one user asking, “If anyone has a great fashion sense here, can anyone explain to me what the hell she is wearing???”
