The black comedy thriller, which is described as being a tale about four South Asians in London whose lives would change over an unplanned dinner, will have its premiere as the ‘Centrepiece Spotlight Film’, which is the official selection out of the competition.
The 14th iteration of the IFFM will be hosted in Melbourne, Australia, from August 11 to 20.
Anshuman Jha is well-known in the film circles as an actor, enjoying his breakout in the 2010 film ‘Love Sex Aur Dhokha’. His latest role in the 2023 film ‘Lakadbaggha’ has received critical acclaim.
Despite his long acting career, Jha is excited to start his directorial life, and spoke about his experience in making his debut film.
“I am thrilled to present ‘Lord Curzon Ki Haveli’ at the Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne 2023. I thank the jury at IFFM 2023 for selecting us as the ‘Centrepiece Spotlight’. And I am very grateful to my team Jetty Films and Golden Ratio Films for their trust & support through this challenging but memorable experience. We are excited to start the film’s festival run in Australia & I hope the audience enjoys this cinematic journey, Jha said.
“I hope Alfred Hitchcock is blessing us from there as this is my homage to him,” he added.
The film is said to be a homage to the American filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, who is known for his cult classic movies such as ‘Vertigo’ and ‘Psycho’.
Jha has previously said that the opening line in the film – “There is a dead body in the trunk” – will deliberately mislead the audience via ‘ominous proceedings in innocuous surroundings’.
The film, which stars Arjun Mathur, Rasika Dugal, Paresh Pahuja, Zoha Rahman, and Tanmay Dhaninia, will reportedly have its India release in December. It is produced by Golden Ratio Films and First Ray Films.
Lead actor Rasika Dugal also spoke of her delight at the film’s IFFM premiere, saying, “I am delighted that our film is premiering at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne which always has a discerning audience with an appetite for fun! It was an absolute joy collaborating with and playing off, my co-actors who helped me experience Ira in a very special way – a woman who navigates and negotiates patriarchy with an undeniable spirit and with a sense of mischief. I hope the film resonates with the audience.”
