As Tamil actor Suriya celebrated his 48th birthday on Sunday, the day turned tragic for two of his young fans in Andhra Pradesh who lost their lives after getting electrocuted while installing a banner marking his birthday.

The two young fans – identified as Nakka Venkatesh and Poluri Sai – were electrocuted to death in the Mopulavari Palem village of Andhra’s Palnadu district, as per police reports.

As per initial reports, the two undergraduate students were installing a banner of Suriya when an iron rod of the flexi came in contact with an overhead electric wire, causing the electrocution.

Both Venkatesh and Sai, who were residents of the Narasaraopet Mandal, died on the spot. Their bodies were sent to the Narasaraopet government hospital for postmortem procedures.

Sister of electrocuted Suriya fan blames college for death

The two young fans of Suriya were undergraduate students studying in the second year of a private degree college in Narasaraopet. Sai’s sister Ananya blamed the college for the death of her brother, accusing them of failing to ensure the students’ security.

“College is responsible for my brother’s death. We are paying lot fees to the college. Before joining the college they assured us that students would be secured and monitored, but, the college is not protecting and monitoring the students in the hostel. We are daily labors. We struggle a lot to pay college fees, striving for a good life for my brother. It’s an awful incident that happened,” Ananya told news agency ANI.

Suriya, who will star in the upcoming period drama ‘Kanguva’, is yet to comment on the tragic incident.
