What is Mameru Ceremony all about?

The Mameru ceremony, also known as mosaalu, which is a traditional Gujarati ritual where the bride's maternal uncle (Mama) and her maternal aunt's (Mami) visit the place to offer sweets and gifts. During the ceremony, the bride and groom touch the feet of Mama and Mami to seek their blessings. It is an emotional ritual that reinforces the bond with maternal relatives.

The gifts typically include a Panetar saree, jewelry, ivory or white bangles (chura) which are presented to the bride-to-be, and a selection of sweets and dry fruits, all beautifully arranged in trousseau trays.

Traditionally, the Mameru ceremony is held separately at the bride's and groom's homes and signifies the start of the main wedding rituals and celebrations.

In Mosalu that was held at the Ambani residence Antilia, the groom’s mother’s family, Nita Ambani’s side of the family, led by her mother Purnima Dalal and her sister Mamta Dalal, came to the residence to bless the couple along with gifts and offerings. The groom’s maternal uncles and family presented the bride & groom with a traditional set of gifts. A number of politicians and actors were seen for the celebrations.
