Veteran Marathi actress Seema Deo, known for her memorable roles in movies such as ‘Anand’ and ‘Kora Kagaz’, passed away on Thursday at the age of 81 due to age-related ailments, according to her filmmaker son Abhinay Deo.

Seema Deo, who had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for more than three years, passed away at her residence in Bandra.

“She passed away at 8:30-9:00 AM at her residence in Bandra due to old age. She had been withdrawn completely, and eventually it is just old age. Alzheimer’s is such a thing that you stop figuring out how to function. She had dementia leading up to Alzheimer’s and she was suffering from it for over three years,” Abhinay Deo told the news agency PTI.

“There’s no specific reason [for her death]. Due to Alzheimer’s and dementia, the person forgets how to walk. The muscle memory starts coming down and one by one, the organs start shutting down.”

The veteran actress had graced the silver screen in over 80 Hindi and Marathi films. Her famous Marathi-language films include ‘Jagachya Pathivar’ and ‘Vardakshina’.

The final rites to honour Seema Deo are scheduled to be held at 5:00 PM at Shivaji Park.

Seema Deo leaves lasting legacy in film world like late-husband Ramesh Deo

Seema Deo’s life was intertwined with the world of cinema not only through her own career but also through her late husband, Ramesh Deo, a stalwart of both Hindi and Marathi cinema. Ramesh Deo passed away in 2022 due to a heart attack. The couple’s love story began on a local train, with Ramesh Deo being captivated by the scent of mogra that Seema was wearing in her hair. Their love blossomed, leading to their wedding in 1963, a marriage that lasted for 59 years.

Seema Deo is survived by two sons, Ajinkya Deo, an actor featured in films like ‘Sansaar’, ‘Indrajeet’, and ‘Aan: Men at Work’, and Abhinay Deo, a director known for films such as ‘Delhi Belly’ and ‘Force’.
