Versatile actor, Amitabh Bachchan who does not need any introduction has recently shared how political activist Sarojini Naidu helped his father and renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan on his inter-caste marriage with Teji Bachchan, when everyone was against them in 1942.

In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 15 (KBC), senior Bachchan revealed about the personality of Naidu after being asked about her. While answering the contestant, he said that Naidu was a big fan of his late father Harivansh Rai.

“She was a huge admirer of my babuji (father), though I hesitate to admit it. My babuji married outside of his caste. Teji ji, my mother, came from a Sikh household. We were residing in Allahabad at the time, when it was considered sinful to marry someone from a different caste,” revealed Big B.

Bachchan also shared that Naidu was the first one to comfort his father on their marriage and even introduced him to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. “She even introduced him to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who lived in Anand Bhavan in Allahabad. I still remember the way she had introduced my father. She said, ‘Meet the poet and his poetry’,” he added.

Story behind the Bachchan Sir name

KBC is a platform, which revealed so many pages of his life. During one of the episodes, the actor also disclosed the story behind his surname ‘Bachchan’. He said, “My father purposefully chose the surname Bachchan for us since it denotes caste. I was questioned about my last name while I was getting ready to be admitted to school. The moment that decision was made, my father and mother chose to use my father’s pseudonym as his writing name rather than the surname of a caste. It was done to conceal my caste’s indication.”
