The makers of the upcoming film ‘Akelli’, featuring Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead role, released its trailer on Friday.

Nushrratt took to Instagram to share the trailer video, captioning it, “AKELLI – An Ordinary Girl’s Battle For Survival. #AkelliTrailer, Out Now. Coming only in cinemas on 18th August….#Akelli.”

The movie narrates the story of an Indian girl stranded alone in war-torn Iraq and her fight for survival against formidable odds. The Akelli trailer introduces Nushrratt Bharuccha as Jyoti, a young woman from Punjab who relocates to Mosul, Iraq, for employment but becomes ensnared in a combat zone.

The trailer depicts Nushrratt’s character attempting to escape but facing armed adversaries from the Islamic State, including getting captured and wedded off to ISIS fighters.

‘Akelli’ is directed by Pranay Meshram, who is marking his directorial debut after serving as an associate director on various projects. The film is produced by Dashami Studioz’s Nitin Vaidya, Ninad Vaidya, and Aparna Padgaonkar, along with Vicky Sidana and Shashant Shah.

Israeli actors Tsahi Halevi and Amir Boutrous, known for their roles in the popular Netflix series ‘Fauda’, are set to make their Bollywood debut with this film.

Overwhelming experience: Nushrratt Bharuccha on shooting for ‘Akelli’

Earlier, Nushrratt shared her shooting experience for Akelli, stating, “Akelli has been an overwhelming experience altogether and far from any role I have played till now. It was emotionally draining for me to portray a character like this, and it makes you think of all the challenges that someone so young must have to go through to provide for their loved ones. I am hoping the audience will be able to connect with my character’s journey and will hopefully like it.”

‘Akelli’ is scheduled to hit the theatres on August 18.
