Adipurush continues to be a subject of dispute. The film’s alleged offensive vocabulary, incorrect character portrayals and shoddy script have not gone well with people. The movie is also been banned in several locations, including Kathmandu and Pokhara Metropolitan City. Also, the screening has been stopped midway in a Mumbai theatre.

Along with the movie receiving criticism from opposing political groups, writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla and director Om Raut have also received death threats. Muntashir has also got security from Mumbai police.

Although the writers have changed the problematic sentences of the movie that hurt people’s religious sensibilities, viewers believe that damage is done. The more important question amid all this uproar is how can a film that ridicules Gods was approved by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Ramayan is not for entertainment: Dipika Chikhlia on Adipurush

Dipika Chikhlia, who rose to fame for playing Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan decades ago, has responded to the criticism of Om Raut’s Adipurush. In a recent interview with a media house, the veteran actor discussed the newly released Prabhas and Kriti Sanon movie and claimed that any deviation from the Hindu classic will draw criticism.

In response to the criticism, Dipika Chikhlia said, “Every time it will return to the screen, whether it be for TV or a movie, it will contain something that will upset people because you are not going to build a clone of the Ramayan that we made. But the thing that truly irritates me is why we keep attempting to produce Ramayan every year or two years. Ramayan is not (for) entertainment value; it is something that you learn from. It is a book, which is being passed down to us by generations and this is what our sanskars (values) are all about.”

Arun Govil said the makers knew that there was something wrong with Adipurush

Arun Govil, who immortalised Lord Ram famous on Indian television via Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, recently criticised the Adipurush film’s producers for resorting to various strategies, including visiting BJP officials and reserving seats for Lord Hanuman in theatres, to assure the movie’s safe arrival in theatres.

The veteran actor said, “Why do they want to fool around? Why do they want to bring new, new things, to try new things? Leave us alone. Why do you want to touch God in this fashion so please don’t do that. And what is the need for it?”

Sunil Lahri calls the dialogue ‘bekaar’

Well-known actor Sunil Lahri, who played Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, has given a thumbs down to Adipurush. After seeing the movie, the actor expressed his dissatisfaction in a video on Instagram. He posed several queries, such as why Meghnad and Lakshman would battle underwater and why Raavan would arrive on a bat rather than a Pushpak Vimaan. He described the movie’s lines as “bekaar” (bad), and he said that the filmmakers should feel guilty for hurting the audience’s feelings by presenting them to them.

Don’t want to watch the film: Prem Sagar

Prem Sagar, whose father Ramanand Sagar directed the legendary television series Ramayan (1987), has questioned how Manoj Muntashir ‘imagined such sentences’ in Adipurush. Prem said that the Adipurush makers have made a fantasy film. He further added that you cannot play with the sentiments of people. Furthermore, he declared that he did not wish to watch Adipurush.
