Actor-YouTuber Prajakta Koli recently got emotional while recalling a difficult period from her childhood when her parents, Manoj Koli and Archana Koli, had to break her piggy bank to cover household expenses. During an interview on the YouTube channel Yuvaa, Prajakta teared up as she asked her father how challenging that time was for him.
The Mismatched actress recounted an incident from when she was 12 years old. "I came back from school or tuition, and Mumma and Papa made me sit with love. I remember feeling like an adult because of the way they spoke to me. They said, 'Aabu, we are struggling a little bit this month, so we will have to break your piggy bank.' I said, 'Ok.' They assured me, 'It's okay, we will get you a new one.'"
Although she now finds the memory deeply emotional, she explained that she never perceived it as a sad moment back then. Reflecting on that time as an adult, she asked her father, "Was that tough for you?"
In response, Prajakta’s father, Manoj Koli, opened up about the financial crisis that left the family struggling. "Yes… at that time, I was working in a multi-level marketing company, which was a new trend in India around 1999-2000. I invested nearly ₹11 lakh—all my savings—but the company went bankrupt. After that, I went blank. Nothing was working, and I had no money to cover monthly expenses."
He further revealed that he tried seeking help from relatives and friends but failed. "My last option was to break your piggy bank, and that amount helped us manage expenses for that month. I can say with pride that our family’s journey of financial recovery started with your support back then."
Prajakta began her career as a radio jockey in Mumbai before shifting to YouTube, where she launched her channel MostlySane. Over the years, she has built a massive following through her relatable content. In 2020, she made her acting debut with the short film Khayali Pulao and later starred in Netflix’s hit series Mismatched, with its third season premiering in 2024. She made her Bollywood debut in Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022) and went on to feature in the teleplay Yeh Shaadi Nahi Ho Sakti (2023) and Anu Menon’s mystery thriller Neeyat.
