Entertainment: Punjabi singer and global icon Diljit Dosanjh recently dropped his latest song, Tension Mitra Nu Hai Ni. However, while many fans grooved to the upbeat track, a section of the internet was unimpressed, criticizing the song’s lyrics and style. Some even mocked Diljit, stating that his music is primarily for children.
A popular Instagram account, Brown Munde TV, shared a video of the song, taking a dig at the singer. The text on the clip read, "Bro, make songs for 12-year-old kids." The post’s caption further ridiculed Diljit’s performance, saying, “Why is he jumping like this? Come on, bro, you’re 41.” Social media users joined in on the criticism, with one commenting, "What average lyrics are these?" Another added, "Spare me. Your silly jokes are better than this song." A user sarcastically remarked, "ChatGPT makes more sensible songs."
Despite the backlash, several fans came forward to defend the singer. A supporter wrote, "The music is great and fun. Why this criticism?" Another fan praised Diljit’s cultural representation, stating, "Never been to his shows much, but this guy represents Punjab through his art." A social media user commented, "Man loves his culture from every atom of his body. He makes me proud when he represents Punjabi people." Meanwhile, another person attributed the criticism to jealousy, writing, "It’s true that with success comes lots of jealousy from mediocre people!"
The controversy around Tension Mitra Nu Hai Ni comes just weeks after Diljit wrapped up his Dil-Luminati India Tour. The grand finale of his tour took place in Ludhiana on December 31, after successful performances in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Guwahati. The Ludhiana concert was added at the last minute as an extended stop, following the original tour’s conclusion in Guwahati on December 29. Fans are also excited about Diljit’s upcoming Bollywood projects. He will be seen in Border 2, alongside Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Sunny Deol. The highly anticipated film, directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, is slated for a global theatrical release on January 23, 2026. Additionally, his film Panjab '95—based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra—has faced delays. Originally set for a worldwide release (excluding India) on February 7, the film sheds light on Khalra’s fearless fight against human rights violations during Punjab’s turbulent militancy period.
