'Drugs in package' scam hits Bollywood, actor loses Rs 5.79 lakh

Bollywood actor Anjali Patil was recently duped of ₹5.79 lakh in an elaborate cyber fraud after a man possing as courier company employee called her, allegeing the presence of drugs ina parcel with her aadhar card in it.

Bollywood actor Anjali Patil was recently defrauded of ₹5.79 lakh in an elaborate cyber scam. The incident began when Patil received a call from one Deepak Sharma claiming to be an employee of FedEx Courier Company. He alleged that a parcel containing drugs and addressed to Taiwan had been intercepted with the actress's Aadhaar card inside.

Fake cyber officer escalates situation

Anjali then received a Skype call from a person posing as Mumbai cyber police officer Banerjee. He claimed her Aadhaar card was linked to bank accounts involved in money laundering. To prove her innocence, he demanded an initial "processing fee" of ₹96,525.

As the scam progressed, the fraudster further alleged the involvement of bank officials. He coerced her into transferring ₹4,83,291 more to a Punjab National Bank account, threatening legal action.

Scam comes to light

Days later, Anjali realised she had been duped after confiding in her landlord. The Finding Fanny and Newton actor promptly lodged a complaint with DN Nagar Police, who registered a case and initiated a probe. An investigation is now underway into the elaborate cyber fraud.

Anjali Patil is best known for her acclaimed roles in films like Finding Fanny, Newton and Kaun Pravin Tambe. Police urge citizens to exercise caution in such situations involving personal data.
