We will punish... CEC Rajiv Kumar lashes out at Jairam Ramesh for allegations on Amit Shah

The remark from CEC Rajiv Kumar came after the Election Commission on Sunday asked Congress leader Jairam Ramesh to seek factual details of the DMs contacted by the home minister.

While praising voters for the record-breaking voters in the Lok Sabha Elections, just a day ahead of results, the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar on Monday came down heavily on the statement made by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh alleging that Union Minister Amit Shah had called up 150 districts magistrates across the country after the voting was over. Kumar said, “It is not right to spread rumors and doubt everyone.”

"...Can someone influence them (district magistrates/returning officers) all? Tell us who did this. We will punish the person who did it...It is not right that you spread a rumor and doubt everyone," Rajiv Kumar said said that a press conference at the Election Commission of India. 

The remark from CEC Rajiv Kumar came after the Election Commission on Sunday asked Congress leader Jairam Ramesh to seek factual details of the DMs contacted by the home minister. EC had asked him to respond by June 2 for further necessary action.

During the press conference, he gave a standing ovation to all the voters who took part in the Lok Sabha Elections. He added that India has created world record of 642 million voters, which is historic.

Rajiv Kumar also briefed about the counting process to be followed to declare the results of the Lok Sabha elections on June 4.
