Lok Sabha Elections 2024: In a potentially detrimental move for the Congress party's image leading up to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Congress leader and spokesperson Supriya Srinate referred to the naxals killed in a recent encounter in Chhattisgarh as "Shaheed" or martyrs. The encounter, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the demise of 29 naxals, marking one of the largest operations against them in recent history.

Responding to inquiries by journalists regarding the party's stance on the issue, Shrinate asserted that the Congress had no intention of politicizing the matter. However, she emphasized the necessity of conducting a thorough investigation into the encounter.

Expressing her condolences to both the slain "martyrs" and the injured security personnel, Shrinate acknowledged the gravity of the situation.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: IG Bastar sheds light on the incident

Earlier statements by IG Bastar P Sundarraj shed light on the events surrounding the encounter. Sundarraj revealed that the bodies of the deceased were undergoing autopsy, while a significant cache of weapons and ammunition had been confiscated from the naxal ranks.

"Yesterday, an encounter ensued between security forces and Naxalites, lasting approximately 4 hours... Teams comprising DRG and BSF successfully cordoned off the area, leading to the recovery of 29 CPI Maoist bodies, including 15 females and 14 males. Substantial arms and ammunition were seized from the scene. The post-mortem examination of the Maoist bodies is currently underway," stated IG Sundarraj.
