Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared a heartfelt video conversation with his mother Sonia Gandhi on X, reflecting on their family's deep-rooted connection with the Rae Bareli and Amethi Lok Sabha constituencies. In the video, Rahul emphasised that these places hold far more significance than mere political constituencies for their families. He expressed, "Both places are not just constituencies for us, they are our karmabhoomi (workplace), every corner of which holds the memories of generations."

Recalling the legacy of service initiated by his father and grandmother, Rahul added, "Looking at old photographs with my mother, I also remembered my father and grandmother, whose tradition of service was continued by me and my mother." The post on X further elaborated on the emotional bond, stating that this relationship, spanning over a century, has been built on love and trust, offering them everything they cherish. Rahul reaffirmed their commitment to respond whenever Amethi and Rae Bareli beckon them.

The poignant video post comes ahead of the fifth phase of voting, scheduled for May 20, in which Rae Bareli and Amethi Lok Sabha constituencies will go to the polls. While Rahul Gandhi contests against BJP's Dinesh Pratap Singh in Rae Bareli, the Congress's ally Kishori Lal Sharma competes against BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi. This electoral shift marks the absence of a Gandhi family member contesting the Amethi Lok Sabha seat for the first time in 25 years.

The recent Lok Sabha elections saw Rahul Gandhi filing his nomination from Rae Bareli on May 3, just an hour before the nomination deadline. The decision ended speculation regarding Amethi and Rae Bareli, confirming his candidature for the seat traditionally held by his mother Sonia Gandhi. Notably, Rahul faced defeat in the adjacent Amethi constituency to BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019 but secured victory from the "safe" Wayanad seat in Kerala.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi's electoral strategy, the BJP took a dig, characterising his move as "running away" from Amethi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in West Bengal, remarked that he had foreseen Rahul's shift to another seat after polling in Wayanad, citing apprehension of defeat. PM Modi's remarks alluded to Rahul's decision to contest Rae Bareli following his previous defeat in Amethi, highlighting the political dynamics surrounding the constituencies and the ensuing electoral strategies.
