Telangana goes in favour of AIMIM; Madhavi Latha loses to Asaduddin Owaisi on a massive vote share

Since the 2004 elections, Owaisi, a four-time member of parliament, has held the Hyderabad seat, consistently winning by substantial margins.

On June 4, with a lead of 338,087 votes, Asaduddin Owaisi of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen emerged victorious with 661,981 votes. With 323,894 votes, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Madhavi Latha Kompella was defeated. One of the seventeen seats of the southern state of Telangana is Hyderabad, the state's vibrant capital. Election results are influenced by the sizeable minority vote bank in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat.

Owaisi dominates Hyderabad 

Asaduddin Owaisi, a four-term sitting member of parliament, and Madhavi Latha of the BJP are engaged in a heated political war for the Hyderabad seat, which has been a stronghold of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) since 1989. With more than 2.8 lakh votes, Owaisi defeated Bhagavanth Rao, the BJP candidate, in the most recent election. Owaisi, the president of AIMIM, is running for office again from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat.

Hyderabad at 2019 polls

With 44.75% of voters casting ballots in the 2019 General Assembly Elections, Hyderabad witnessed a close contest. With a substantial lead of 282,186 votes, AIMIM candidate Asaduddin Owaisi won with a total of 517,471 votes. Dr. Bhagavanth Rao, a BJP candidate, lost to Owaisi with 235,285 votes.

The constituency boasts a population of over 2.1 million people and 1,823,664 registered voters, as per the 2011 census, indicating a high level of democratic engagement. Owaisi and Sameer, two Muslim contenders, are running against the BJP's Madhavi Latha, who has become well-known for her involvement in the triple talaq movement.
