The Barmer constituency saw a unique battle in the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, as results will be announced on June 4. The 26-year-old Ravinder Bhati, who was running as an independent, made the race a three-way contest rather than the customary Congress vs. BJP fight, which he lost with 586500 votes, meanwhile, Congress's Ummea Ram Beniwal won with 704676. This constituency, which consists of eight legislative assemblies, was put to a vote on April 26 during the second round of the elections.Voter turnout for the Lok Sabha Election of 2024 was 75.93%. The trend of Lok Sabha polls indicates that Ummeda Ram Beniwal, the Congress, is leading independent candidate Ravindra Singh Bhati in the race for the Barmer Lok Sabha seat.

Previously, in Barmer elections

From 1957 to 2014, the Congress party won nine of the fifteen elections, demonstrating its historical dominance over the Barmer Lok Sabha constituency. From 1996 until 2004, Colonel Sonaram served three terms in a row as a representative for the seat while running for Congress.

Nonetheless, the party's hold on the seat was weakened in 2014 with the Modi wave. With a 73% voter turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kailash Choudhary of the BJP won with 8,44,104 votes, narrowly defeating Manvendra Singh of the INC, who came in second. With 4,87,437 votes, Col. Sona Ram of the Bharatiya Janata Party was victorious in the 2014 election, while Jaswant Singh, an independent candidate, trailed behind with 87,398 votes.

Bhati's educational prowess

Bhati began his political journey as a student leader at JNVU. When denied a ticket by ABVP, he ran independently and became the first independent student union president in JNVU's 57-year history. He focused on student issues, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and faced imprisonment multiple times.

Recognized for his popularity, he joined BJP Rajasthan's leadership. Despite being denied a ticket from the Sheo constituency, he won as an independent candidate, a first in the area. At 26, on his birthday in December 2023, he became the youngest MLA in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly alongside Anshuman Singh Bhati. In the 2024 Indian general elections, he ran independently from the Barmer Lok Sabha constituency.
