PM Modi gears up for nomination filing with energetic Varanasi roadshow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's six-kilometer-long roadshow in Varanasi showcased a mega display of strength in his Lok Sabha constituency. The event unfolded a day before his nomination filing and commenced with floral tributes to the statue of educationist Madan Mohan Malaviya at the Banaras Hindu University's Lanka Gate. Joining him were UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other BJP leaders.

Show of Strength Amidst Accusations

During the roadshow, PM Modi underscored the development contrasts between his tenure and alleged neglect by the Congress. "Today every pore of my body is saluting Kashi," he expressed, acknowledging the overwhelming support from the people. He reminisced about his connection with Varanasi, stating, "I had said that Maa Ganga has called me. Today Maa Ganga has adopted me."

The event, marked by conches, shehnai tunes, rhythmic drum beats, and chants of mantras, accentuated the achievements of the central government over the past decade. Echoes of 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Jai Shri Ram' resonated as the PM greeted the crowds with folded hands.

Cultural Diversity and Warm Reception

The roadshow, attended by over a million people, including BJP workers, sportspersons, artists, and locals, showcased India's cultural richness. Folk tunes and tributes to cultural icons like Ustad Bismillah Khan and Pt. Kishan Maharaj added vibrancy to the event.

The nomination event, anticipated to host CMs of BJP-ruled states and alliance leaders, reflects a significant political gathering. The presence of Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other prominent leaders underscores the political significance of Varanasi in the upcoming elections.

Opposition's Perspective

In contrast, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Rai criticised the roadshow as extravagant, questioning the need for such displays amidst claims of development. Rai, contesting against PM Modi, raised pertinent questions about Varanasi's progress in the last decade.
