Actor and Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh declared he would run for the Lok Sabha seat from Bihar's Karakat in the 2019 elections. He is going to run against NDA candidate and chairman of the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party, Upendra Kushwaha. This occurs one month after Singh said he will not run for the Asansol seat in West Bengal. He was originally included in the list of candidates put forth by the BJP for the next general elections.

Why did Singh choose not to run from Asansol?

The TMC had criticized his candidature, claiming that some of his songs were obscene and crudely represented women, especially those from Bengal. He had not given a reason for his decision to not run from Asansol. In the 2014 Lok Sabha, he was fielded by the BJP against actor-turned-politician  Shatrughan Sinha, an Asansol-based MP for the Trinamool Congress.

The announcement

The Bhojpuri actor had, nevertheless, posted on his X handle last month, saying, that he will contest the elections to fulfill the pledge he made to his mother, society, and the people. Pawan Singh, in the meantime, has declared that he will run for the Lok Sabha seat in Karakat, Bihar, rather than the Asansol constituency in West Bengal.

Ahluwalia takes Pawan's place at Asansol!

It is still unclear which political party he plans to run for. However, SS Ahluwalia has been declared by the BJP as the Asansol candidate, replacing Pawan Singh.  It was previously thought that Pawan Singh would run from Asansol due to a change in his mood; however, the BJP announced SS Ahluwalia as the new contender for this seat. Following this, Pawan Singh also disclosed his cards.
