The ‘Kingmakers’ Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu are in Delhi to discuss the formation of the government after Bharatiya Janata Party’s insufficient performance in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 and have dropped a big hint at supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi after landing in Delhi.

Soon after landing in Delhi, Nitish Kumar, while speaking with media reporters hinted that he may support the National Democratic Alliance, saying, the government will be formed, ‘Sarkar toh ab banegi hi…’ he said in Hindi.

Meanwhile, the JD-U spokesperson KC Tyagi on Tuesday said that their party is in full support of NDA, and will continue to be with NDA.

On Wednesday, he asserted, “NDA meeting is taking place in Delhi...Nitish Kumar is participating in the meeting. JD(U) will also submit the letter pledging support to NDA as well as to make Narendra Modi the PM..There is no question of going back (to INDIA alliance)...”

However, the official statement from Nitish Kumar is still awaited.

Here's what Chandrababu Naidu said

On the other hand, before leaving for Delhi TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has paved the way for NDA saying, “We are in NDA, I’m going to the NDA meeting. In course of time, we will report it.”

With 240 seats in the Lok Sabha, the BJP fell 32 seats short of the majority. The party will now need to rely on the backing of its allies to form a government, as it had hoped to gain between 350 and 400 seats.

The BJP fell 32 seats short of the 272 majority mark after votes polled in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were counted. For the first time, since the Bharatiya Janata Party swept to power in 2014, it did not secure a majority on its own.

Conversely, the INDIA bloc outperformed expectations. The alliance of opposition parties gained more than 230 seats, defying exit polls that predicted their defeat.

Now, all eyes are on Nitish Kumar as JD-U has 12 seats and Telugu Desam Party won 16 seats in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, respectively. Meanwhile, all the alliance parties have reached Delhi for a meeting to decide on the government.
