Arvinder Singh Lovely, the former Delhi Congress chief officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday. His decision to switch parties came in the wake of his resignation from the Delhi Congress post, a move sparked by disagreements over the party's alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Former Congress MLAs Raj Kumar Chauhan, Neeraj Basoya, Naseeb Singh, and former Youth Congress President Amit Malik also joined the BJP at the party's headquarters in New Delhi.

In his resignation letter tendered the previous week, Lovely expressed discontent over the Congress's decision to ally with the AAP. He voiced criticism against the candidature of Kanhaiya Kumar from North East Delhi and Udit Raj from North West Delhi, stating they were unfamiliar faces within the Delhi Congress ranks. He clarified that his resignation was not solely motivated by ticket distribution issues.

What did he say?

Dismissing rumors linking his resignation to ticket distribution grievances, Lovely clarified his stance. He highlighted that he had introduced the candidates at a recent press conference, underscoring that his resignation pertained solely to his role as Delhi Congress chief and not his party affiliation.

Why did Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned?

In his resignation letter addressed to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely cited the party's decision to form an alliance with the AAP as a primary reason for his resignation. He expressed dismay over the alliance with a party that he believed was founded on baseless corruption allegations against the Congress. Despite his disagreement, Lovely acknowledged and respected the party's final decision.

Personal actions and disagreements

Lovely disclosed his actions in support of the party despite his differing views, recounting an instance where he visited Arvind Kejriwal's residence on the night of his arrest, accompanied by fellow party members. This action, he explained, was in contrast to his personal stance on the matter.

Arvinder Singh Lovely's shift from the Delhi Congress to the BJP could change the political landscape of Delhi in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
