Lok Sabha elections 2024: Manipur, Chhattisgarh witness violence during polls

The violence erupted in Manipur and Chhattisgarh during the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.

The incident of firing, booth capturing attempts and destructions of EVMs have been reported from several areas of Manipur. According to the sources, armed miscreants entered the polling booth and got engaged in proxy voting in Khongman, Imphal East.

Apart from this, several people have been reported to be injured after armed men opened fire at a polling station in Thamanpokpi. The firing led to panic among people who came to exercise their franchise and started to look for safe cover.

CRPF personnel suffer injuries in Chattisgarh's Bijapur

In another incident, two CRPF personnel were reported to be injured in separate incidents during polling of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in the Bijapur district of Bastar division. According to the sources, a Central Reserve Police Force assistant commandant has been injured in a pressure IED blast in Bijapur which was planted by Maoists to target security personnel.

Notably, 21 states and 102 Lok Sabha constituencies are going to polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19. The voters can cast their vote till 6 pm.
