BJPs Smriti Irani who was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 after she soundly defeated Rahul Gandhi is looking at a poll loss. Smriti Irani was losed by over 1.6 lakh votes behind Congresss Kishori Lal Sharma. Smriti Irani is the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. There are a total of thirteen candidates contesting from Amethi seat in the 2024 Parliamentary polls. Smriti Irani given close scare to CongressThe BJP leader had secured a vote share of 49.71%, while Gandhi managed to get 43.86%. In 2014, Smriti Irani had given a close scare to the Congress leader as her vote share was 34.39%, while Rahul Gandhi secured 46.72%. Despite losing the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the BJP leader continued to visit Amethi regularly to nurture the constituency. She even built a home in Mawai village, holding a house-warming ceremony on February 22 of this year. Despite facing defeat, Smriti Irani was made a cabinet minister by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was given the key human resource development portfolio. Later, she was shifted to the textiles ministry. Amethi constituency voted in Phase 5 of the 2024 Lok Sabha election on May 20, 2024 and the couting of votes is being held on June 4, 2024. The seat was once a Congress bastian and has been represented by Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi as well as Rajiv Gandhi. Irani had defeated Gandhi in 2019 by more than 55,000 votes in a historic win, seizing the prestigious seat. Smriti Irani of BJP won with 468,514 votes, while Rahul Gandhi received 413,394 votes. NOTA received 3,940 votes.
