Lok Sabha election 2024: Polling in phase 6 set for May 25 across 8 states/UTs; 889 candidates in fray

A total of 889 candidates are in the fray in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections. Among these, the maximum number of 223 candidates are from Haryana, while the least number of 20 candidates are in the fray from Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat of Jammu and Kashmir.

Following five voting phases for the ongoing general elections, the sixth phase is scheduled for Saturday, May 25. In this phase, 58 constituencies across six states and two Union Territories will be up for election, including all seven parliamentary seats in the national capital. 

8 states and two UTs

These include all the seats in Delhi and Haryana, 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, eight in Bihar, eight in West Bengal, four in Jharkhand and six in Odisha. Along with this, voting will also be held for Anantnag-Rajouri seat of Jammu and Kashmir in the same phase. Although the election on this seat was proposed in the third phase itself, but due to bad weather, it was postponed to the sixth phase.

Candidates in the fray

A total of 889 candidates are in the fray in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections. Among these, the maximum number of 223 candidates are from Haryana, while the least number of 20 candidates are in the fray from Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat of Jammu and Kashmir. There are a total of 162 candidates for 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 86 candidates for eight seats in Bihar, 162 candidates for seven seats in Delhi, 79 for eight seats in West Bengal, 93 for four seats in Jharkhand and 64 for six seats in Odisha. The candidate is in the fray.

However, a total of 1978 people had filed nominations on these 58 seats, out of which nominations of only 900 people were found valid. Later, after withdrawal of their names, only 889 candidates are left in the fray. Among the famous and famous faces whose fate is at stake in the sixth phase of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections, are former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Rao Inderjit and Krishna Pal Gurjar, Maneka Gandhi, actor Raj Babbar, Manoj Tiwari and Dinesh Kumar Yadav Nirahua etc. are included.

Of the 58 Lok Sabha seats that will go to polls in the sixth phase. In 2019, BJP and NDA had won 40 of them. Of these, BJP had won all seven seats in Delhi and all ten seats in Haryana. In this sense, the sixth phase remains a question of prestige for both the ruling party and the opposition. However, this time the situation has changed a bit in both the states.

AAP, Congress fighting together

This time in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are contesting the elections together, in 2019 both the parties had contested the elections separately. Whereas in Haryana, before the Lok Sabha elections, BJP's ally Jannayak Janata Party has separated from them. The command of the state is also now in the hands of Naib Singh Saini instead of Manohar Lal Khattar.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024

The five phases of Lok Sabha elections held so far, an average of 65.96 percent voting has taken place. Among these, the lowest 62.2 percent voting took place in the fifth phase, while the highest 69.16 percent voting took place in the fourth phase. While 66.14 percent voting took place in the first phase, 66.71 percent in the second phase and 65.68 percent in the third phase.
